how do you basically take a hop out of a wheel? not side to side wobble but up and down movement. my wheel is perfectly straight except for a slight hop.

what are some new gsport products that are coming out next year?

if my frame is twisted can that make my chain have a extreme tight spot?

do you still have time to ride, if so do you have brakes?

whats stronger a t-1 barcode or a sunday wave or funday?

what state do you live in and how old are you (if you dont mind me asking)?

what are the strongest yet lightest rims, 7ka?

thank you!

I know gsport generally works in bearing and hubs, with that said any chance you've ever thought about developing some sort of headset?

Hello George, I received my brand new g sport ratchet in the post a few weeks ago. I was having issues with my hub so I sent the following email using a link on the g sport website.

"I've just received my new ratchet hub in the post. When I tighten the
Bolts into my hub in my dropout it become really difficult to pedal.
The higher the torque the greater the resistance. At a standard wheel
Tightness level it's very uncomfortable to pedal. Do I have a fault?
with my hub? Can I fix it myself?"

I received the following reply:

"Hmmmm...

I wonder if the seal is getting pinched or something?
"

After picture sending back and forth to a bike company it was established that my hub was missing a bush which Iím still missing now and can't seem to get sorted!

Why does your "Warranty/Technical" give such a poor reply and not seem to be interested in helping? After spending £150 on the hub Iím well disappointed and will definitely not be buying from g sport again.

Get the fuck out.

This is not the G-Sport warranty department.

That's alright it's a long time since my riding was noteworthy...

"Hobbies" is a strange word... I love all aspects of cycling, recently bought a mountainbike or two which is cool for the winter and general fitness now I am getting on a bit. And I love making things, the transport bike in the photo, renovating the house, gardening... anything constructive I suppose.

It will "last" indefinitely. But it wont "perform" that well for more than a year or two at a guess depending on how dusty, wet, and/or muddy it is where you ride... but you will always have the option to clean it out and get it going again. The Ratchet uses the same massive 6904 bearings that the Homer, Vandal and Monkey hubs used and many of these lasted well over 5 years on the original bearings. If you look after it and change the bearings once a decade or so it should last pretty much forever. You certainly arent going to have any of the problems associated with a bent axle like the bearing seats coning out that are common on other hubs.

It depends how slight the hop is. If you have a really short (meaning as the wheel spins it just bumps up for a fraction of a revolution, like 1 or 2 spokes) wobble, then it may well be a bend in the rim, or a slight distortion where the rim was welded. A hop like this you cannot expect to remove through wheel truing. Because we like strong rim joints in BMX, we tend to go for welded rims, but a weld is always going to result in some deformation, some rims are worse than others within a batch. If it is really bad then often it can be warrantied depending on the company involved, but most people dont even notice a very small bump.

If it is a long gradual rise and fall then you need to tighten the spokes at the "high spot" and loosen the ones where it is low. It's pretty obvious if you think about it a bit with the wheel in front of you.

Ummm.... The only thing I can mention right now is the Ratchet guard.

No. If you have a tight spot then it has to be something that changes as the cranks move. If the tight spot is always at the same place (ie. when the left pedal is at 2 O'clock), then it has to be something in the crank area, a misaligned sprocket, dented section of teeth on the sprocket, bent crank axle, etc. If the tight spot moves, (ie. sometimes it is when the left pedal is at 2, then the next time at 4, then at 8 etc) then it has to be the chain or the hub driver or something like that.

Yes. Yes. I cant do shit brakeless and I like to go fast in traffic, so brakes are essential. Back and Front.

Define "stronger".

I live in the UK, in Sheffield, and I am old enough that I need to start dodging that kind of question... (39)

No rim is BOTH the strongest AND the lightest. Choose one, or choose a balance of properties that suit you. What you probably want is the lightest rim that will be strong ENOUGH for how you ride to be able to last a reasonable length of time. This is essentially what I spend most of my time working out. Currently my best answer would be the Ribcage, which has very strong sidewalls, and due in part to the cross lacing, will build into a very durable wheel but is a very decent weight (500g), however if you dont need this level of strength, or are on a tight budget, then the new Quadrant rim is very tough too and only weighs 430g, and is going to be pretty cheap..

Yes. Try not to get bummed out by how dull and irrelevant most of the degree will be. Try to relate it to what you actually want to do. Try getting on machines and making things. Try to find out everything you can about every aspect of manufacture from materials to processes. Dont believe all the crap you hear about "black arts" and mystically skilled frame builders, most of it is bollocks.

Riding them. As soon as you ride a good bike, how can you NOT become obsessed?

Yes. I work on every aspect of every part of the bike, it is only wheel parts that come out under the G-Sport name but I work on pretty much all our parts. I have looked at headsets, but right now the integrated is serving us pretty well. Usually when people have a problem it is the seats that are the problems rather than any kind of inherent weakness in the bearing itself.

Sorry to hear it. It wasnt me that you were dealing with. Please feel free to email me direct and I will see what I can do. I assume this was through IMG since you put the price in £?

Just email me and I will get it sorted.
