What are your thoughts on the creative direction that BMX has taken on in the last few years? Do you feel as though Defgrip,Lavar, lotek or brands like subrosa have changed the way that BMX is put out there? Not to take anything away from the products but all the previous mentioned companies have a very creative outlook on design , visual appeal and marketing.

Here is another question concerning your Salvation video part, I noticed there was a lot of Woodward footage. Do you still go to Woodward? What is the craziest trick you have thrown down in the foam and resi?

(the Salvation video was a huge influence on my riding when it came out, Kevin Porter got me obsessed with crankflips)
Oh yeah, that intro. I think we were on time constraint so we just talked about an intro rather than doing one.

I haven't been to Woodward in ages. Even back in the day, I didn't get too crazy on the resi. The occasional Big Mac (truckdriver to barspin, named by Troy McMurray) was about as crazy as I got.

So glad you liked the Salvation video. We had fun shooting for that.

Well first of all I'll tell you that I don't claim to be a designer, but yes, BMX looks/feels cool and that's why people like it, whether they admit it or not. Seeing cool ads and awesome looking bikes is what got me into BMX. So yes, visual appeal is where it starts, because it gets people interested, so I like to focus on visual appeal when I'm working with the brands I work with. Giving more attention to visual appeal is helping BMX evolve and, in a way, get back to where it started. It was cool to be at Interbike this year and see all the companies taking some pride in the way they're presented.

mike,
your part in 'nowhere fast' was classical. check it:

-who do you think is the most underrated rider out now?

- you seem to have good taste in music, what have you been listening to lately?

i'll think of more questions later.

ps. thanks for bringing the woodgrain back (if you had a say in that).

Hey mike obviously Giant isn't a hardcore bmx company but i was wondering what the intended market is for the company? Also now that you work for Giant, have you gotten into any other bikes?

Thanks! I think the most underrated rider right now is Wolf Man. There are underrated riders all over the place, but Wolf Man is the first that comes to mind. Every time I ride with him, I go into it expecting to be amazed, and then he exceeds that.

Music wise, I've lagged on getting new music so I've been digging into my old stuff. The mix I'm listening to now has a bunch of Avalanches songs (we used them quite a bit in the So Freestyle video that's on the MOSH myspace right now--www.myspace.com/moshparts), Slick Rick, The Fridge, Iggy Pop, and some songs from the Kill Bill soundtrack. It's random.

The DJ! Ha. That frame looked dope but was about 9 pounds! I got on MOSH right when Heath was riding the DJ, but the new Brass was about to come out, so I waited for that. Heath was so pissed that I never had to ride the DJ, so one time we made a bet, and if I lost it, I had to ride a DJ for a month. I lost the bet but never rode the DJ. Heath is still pissed at me. He's real bitter about the DJ.

It's definitely been in the plans ever since we put Ian on, but Ian's design is so drastically different from any other freecoaster, so it's taking some time.
